Electronic Flight Instrumentation System (EFIS) For the EFIS, we went with Grand Rapids Technology. The package represented the best value and customer service for the money. We went with the SPORT package because it suited our requirements to keep things simple but provide the best technology of the day. Installation included early on the Magnatrometer, which we installed on the right wing using a fabricated bracket. You need to be mindful of how the wiring is run into the cockpit as they are easily interfered with.
Installation of a multitude of sensors is required. These are fed into the Engine Instrumentation System (EIS). Pictured are the EGT sensors. The EFIS system can use an external GPS signal (say from a Garmin 430), but GRT sells an inexpensive and easily installed GPS system as well. We opted for both the 430 and the GRT GPS system. We manufactured a bracket for the GRT GPS under the cowl (pictured).
The fidelity of the SPORT Displays speak for themselves. Calibration was done using the manuals, but a few well timed phone calls to Carlos and Sandy at GRT made this a straightforward task! Pictured are the larger PFD screen and the smaller MFD, as well as the EIS box. You can hide the EIS under the panel if you want. It is the brains of the system and we elected to display it in the panel as well. This decision was made due to the current draw on start up and our desire to see the engine readings early. We start with only the EIS display on, and bring all other avionics on after start.
