Avionics

We started thinking Avionics prior to Oshkosh 2008 and despite our research prior to talking to vendors, our head was spinning as we talked to various vendors at the show.  There are a lot of options out there and for us it came down to personal preference and company reputation.  We ordered our equipment through Stein Aviation and have been extremely pleased with their service.  No question is too simple for these folks, they take their time and explain the options, help build the best package for your needs and service well past the sell.  We decided on the Garmin 430 and 330, the PS engineering 9000, a Tru-Track Autopilot, and the Grand Rapids dual EFIS system.  As you can see...we've come along way from Oshkosh 2008.

For those still in the build process, there are a lot avionics decisions that need to be made well before you are ready to install the boxes.  We decided to install an autopilot, which drives early ordering and installation of servo (roll and pitch trim).  You really want to install these before you button up areas of the fuselage and wings.  Additionally, mounting brackets and cable harnesses can be ordered early...if you know what you are getting for avionics.  These can be installed early, awaiting the instrumentation itself.
